For years researchers have been identifying family history using YDNA, especially those interested in where their specific line may originate. Upgrading to a Next Generation Sequence test (NGS) can help bring information that could be 200k years old into a more workable timeframe. We will look at the NGS test and the tools for discovery available today, and apply them in a case study. We’ll throw in some geeky stuff, but everyone, no matter their level of Genetic Genealogy knowledge, should be able to walk away with a basic understanding of what Next Generation Sequencing is, why to do an NGS level YDNA test, and what impact this kind of test may have on their genealogy research.
