Owen Sound and Area Black History

Presented by Dennis Scott

60-Minute Presentation (Intermediate)

Dennis is a representative of eight generations of Black Canadians, born and raised in Owen Sound, Ontario, the most northerly retreat of the Underground Railroad. Through presentation and PowerPoint, Dennis will represent Owen Sound’s Black history, evolving into the city’s recognition as a Cultural Capital of Canada, a goal the Halton Black History Awareness Society has in our Halton community.  Dennis will present the enslavement process in North America, leading to Freedom seekers settling in Canada, key contributors to Canada’s rich Black history, and the evolution of all learning and appreciating a history that has been neglected, manipulated, negated, appreciated and most recently honoured.
