It’s time to go back to fill in the gaps in our family trees now that the cost of English birth and death certificates has come down. We will explore the government process of getting from birth-to-birth certificate and why that is important to researchers. We will examine and see how to access the variety of indexes – original, modern with additional information, indexes of indexes – and understand which are duplicates and when to use each. We will explore the similar processes for death records, their creation, and indexes. Access to marriage certificates has not changed so we will examine some alternatives.
