Documenting Toronto Jewish Families Through a Doctor’s Health Survey

Presented by Daniel Horowitz

60-Minute Presentation (Intermediate)

Decades ago, the late Dr. Henry Goldenberg, a physician in Toronto, asked his patients about their family histories and sketched out their family trees. Seeking to corroborate and verify information on the scrolls with external sources such as birth, marriage, death, census, passenger, and other records, volunteers with the Jewish Genealogical Society of Toronto started adding these trees to MyHeritage in 2015, generating thousands of matches with records and other trees. The Goldenberg charts refer to 2,700 individuals and constitute a major resource in the Toronto Jewish Families History Project. By now the number of people has tripled, and the information is being reconfirmed, uncovering connections between the families with the same origins and leaving a legacy for all the descendants.
