UK Second World War Research

Presented by James F.S. Thomson

60-Minute Presentation (All)

Complementing the conference presentations on What’s New and Exciting in English, Scottish and Irish Research, this information-packed presentation might be titled What’s New and Exciting in United Kingdom Second World War Research! In addition to looking forward to the release of tranches of service personnel records transferred from the Ministry of Defence (UK) to The National Archives and to be digitised by Ancestry, we’ll explore the spectacular array of other UK Second World War records recently made available online – to the huge benefit of distance researchers. Our survey naturally will include women’s service records, as well as merchant navy records and some civilian records. Excitingly, there are plenty of Canadians who appear in various types of UK Second World War records, and such records also might profitably be explored in researching many Canadians who served in the Second World War.
