Based on the presenter’s Families article of November 2015, this case study demonstrates the research strategy used in revealing the true history of George R. Young despite the incorrect and misleading birth and parentage details reported on his death registration in Michigan. Despite claiming an American origin, George was actually born and raised in Toronto where his abandoned first wife and children lived, not in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he spent the last decades of his life with a second family. U.S. and Canadian census records, city directories, civil registration, and newspapers were used in uncovering the truth.
