Dave Obee is the honorary librarian and archivist at the University of Victoria, which also awarded him an honorary doctorate for his work as a journalist, historian and genealogist. He is the editor and publisher of the Times Colonist newspaper in Victoria, and is the author of twelve books, including guides to Canadian immigration records and census records. He is a columnist for Internet Genealogy. He was on the board of Canada’s History Society for five years, and on the Services Consultation Committee at Library and Archives Canada for four. In 2023 he has given twenty-nine presentations, including six in person and twenty-three via webinar. He has given more than 700 in-person presentations; recent speaking credits include OGS in 2018, 2017, 2016 and 2015, and the Foundation for Eastern European Family History Studies in 2023.
